This is a PRN Position located at El Campo Memorial Hospital and/or Mid Coast Rehabilitation.
Employees who are hired to work for a short specified period of time or on an irregular basis either in a full time or part time capacity or who voluntarily choose PRN status are considered PRN employees, PRN employees are not entitled to organization paid leave benefits including but not limited to vacation, sick, holiday, bereavement and jury duty.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapy Assistant provides treatment in the hospital to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of a body part. The Occupational Therapy Assistant shall be responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice in the provision of occupational therapy services.

30% | The licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant provides direct occupational therapy intervention based on the individualized treatment plan and established priorities for each patient as developed by the Occupational Therapist.

20% | The licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant assesses and documents the patient’s response to occupational therapy intervention in relation to the stated goals of the treatment plan.

15% | The licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant develops and maintains effective communication with the patient, family and staff members.

5% | The licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant participates in continued application of standards required by all applicable accrediting bodies (i.e., CMS, etc.)

5% | The licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant understands the parameters of and works within the supervisory process.
|
25% | The licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant promotes the concept and image of professional occupational therapy practice, understanding of marketing concepts and contributes to the delivery of cost-effective health care.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience | Associate of Arts Degree. Ability to read, speak and write English. Adheres to rehabilitation principles and practices, and must be able to carry out procedures/treatments in a hospital, outpatient, school or aquatic setting. |
Required Course(s)/Training | Accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program |
Required Licensure | Current Texas license granted by the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners. Must have a valid Texas drivers’ license, current auto liability insurance and reliable transportation. |
Required Certification | Current CPR |
Physical Demands | Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking. Frequently lifts, positions, transfers and transports patients. Frequently moves supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs from locations at or above shoulder level. Must be able to drive a car 30+ miles per day, get in and out of the car. During an evacuation, may have to assist patients on stretchers or wheelchairs. |
Working Conditions | May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases, but will be expected to utilize universal precautions as delineated in the Infection Control Manual. This job is rated as a moderate risk of exposure. Occasional exposure to unpleasant elements, including heat, cold and humidity. Employee will not be expected to drive through running water or on icy roads.. May work with combative patients. Will be expected, as directed by supervisor, to provide services for any area in the hospital or outpatient clinics which the employee demonstrates competency. |
